I'm sorry to hear about your difficulty. It's is hard to change habits. Excess carbs in the diet is the same as an addiction for many of us. I also struggle with this. We do have many options to help. Many other people have been helped with various treatments. Everyone is different with this and we need to find what works best for you. I encourage you to make an appointment to discuss your options. We are in the process of setting up a Facebook page specifically for this discussion. It will be invitation only for our group. I have been asked to set a support group to meet regularly. ...so don't feel alone . I look forward to seeing you.

What is your biggest issue so far? Snacking? Cravings? What to eat? I am very fortunate in that my wife has a lot of cooking books and has gotten into the 'paleo diet' Meats and veggies. There is a great site called NOM-NOM Paleo nomnompaleo.com/. A great snack I use to fight hunger is olives. Especially greek olives you can get at Hy-Vee soaked in olive oil. Get the GREEN ones with a little bit of cheese stuffed in them. Eat three or four and your hunger pangs go away. Another thing we have done is simply substitute green iceberg lettuce for anything that you would normally use bread for. Make a cheeseburger with bacon and wrap it in lettuce. Tacos in lettuce and sandwiches wrapped in lettuce. Went to Red Robin a week ago with my family and you can enjoy one of their great burgers wrapped in lettuce. Avoid the ketchup but they use real mayo so your okay there. Add in pickles/onions and bacon and you really dont notice anything different. Had a salad with it and I was stuffed... No need to even buy popcorn at the movies afterward.

Thank you for the suggestions Charles..I really appreciate it!!! I'll have to try the olives. My biggest problem is something sweet. Since I know I'm not supposed to have it now, it seems like I'm constantly craving chocolate..chocolate candy and hot chocolate..oh and chocolate chip cookies. I'm a real chip-a-holic too, but my husband discovered a snack for me that's been really successful in replacing the chips. He take pepperoni and puts a layer between paper towels and puts it on a paper plate, microwave for about a minute and a half and presto...pepperoni chips..salty and crunchy. I haven't been perfect during the last three weeks, I'll weigh tomorrow and I think I will be down about 6 pounds total. The good thing about this diet, and I agree with you, I'm not ever really hungry. And I can have steak and seafood..so there are definite pluses. I just need help with the sweet cravings. Suggestions??

Hi, I want to thank Dr. Jim, his diet has made me over 30 pounds lighter! I have added a few things into the diet to see how well I continue to lose weight. I bought the test strips for ketosis or ketones. The strips say that I am no longer in ketosis. I added salsa to my eggs in the morning and Italian dressing to my salad. I didn't think that would effect ketones much.... I was wrong. I am taking cheese out on my diet now to lesson the calories. I hope it works!

I have been on the diet now since mid-February ( 2-1/2 months ) and I have lost 30lbs. My goal is to lose another 40. Another idea is kale chips. If you are craving a snake consider kale chips. You bake them in the oven with some salt and olive oil and they come out tasting a lot like a regular chip. nomnompaleo.com/post/2648091289/baked-kale-chipsI can't promote the strips enough. I know they are expensive but they are the ONLY way to really understand HOW your body reacts to certain foods. If I have a beer, it knocks me out of ketosis right away. If I eat A cookie or something like that I still remain in ketosis, no change. I dont worry about counting calories at all on this diet. I really do eat as much cheese, meat and green vegies as I can get with no weight gain at all. This is the FIRST diet I have been on that I have not gained weight back at some point. Some weeks I dont drop any weight but on other weeks I drop 2 to 4 lbs. If you are really following the diet, I don't think you should worry about calories. Another good tip is finding some very, very good balsamic vinegar and infused olive oil. There is a store in Davenport that sells the stuff. Nice receipe ideas as well. Make up your own vinegrete dressing and you WON'T go back to anything else. Have as much as you want on your salad.
